The biomass-fuelled energy-production unit with the capacity of 20 MWe for ENERGA Kogeneracja in Elbląg.

On 1 July this year, Mostostal Warszawa commissioned a biomass-fuelled energy-production unit with the capacity of 20 MWe for the investor ENERGA Kogeneracja in Elbląg. The energy unit produces “green” electric energy and heat for the needs of the residents of Elbląg.

The installation is equipped with a turbo-generator with electric capacity of 20 MWe and a steam boiler with a grate with the capacity of 90 tonnes of steam per hour. The planned annual production of electric energy is approx. 165 MWh and heat approx. 796,000 GJ. The planned use of biomass is approx. 136,000 tonnes annually.
Thanks to modern technological solutions applied in the installation constructed by us, emission of carbon dioxide was limited by approx. 155,000 tonnes annually.

Thanks to the use of biomass in the form of straw pellets in the burning process, demand for straw as a raw material for production of such pellets has grown. This means increased economic activity in the region and increased revenues from straw production. The possibility of new work places in plants producing pellets for the needs of the new energy unit is also significant.

Construction of the new biomass-fuelled plant for ENERGA Kogeneracja Sp. z o.o. has currently a positive impact on multiple issues important for the residents of Elbląg and the region, including financial, environmental and image-related factors.
