The Regional Centre of Culture, Education and Music Documentation in Łódź
The new building of the Regional Centre of Culture, Education and Music Documentation is located at 1 Maja Alley No. 4 in direct vicinity of the palace, the main seat of the Academy. This is yet another, after the new Concert Hall, modern building assigned for educational and cultural activity of the Academy.
The day of ceremonious opening was marked by a number of attractions for children from Łódź schools, who participated in music workshops conducted by teachers from the Chair of Rhythmic and Piano Improvisation. Study rooms and lecture hall will also be made available for city residents. In the evening, there was an inauguration concert with performances given by the Academy’s students and graduates. Marshall of the Łódź Province, Mr. Witold Stępień, held honorary patronage over the concert.
The facility, constructed by Mostostal Warszawa, is an original combination of an old residential townhouse, rebuilt and adapted for new purposes, and a modern building designed from scratch. Both sections are combined by a glazed patio. It was created in place of the former backyard of the townhouse and several stylised elements make references to the original character of this place, e.g. a lamppost, a swing, low walls and colourful puffs for relaxation. The building houses a library, a lecture hall, a record library, sound laboratories, lecture rooms and study rooms. On the ground floor of a 4-storey building, there is a chamber concert and auditory hall for 200 people, where 70 artistic and artistic and scientific events have been planned in the next academic year. Students and teachers of the Academy are going to move in to the new building at the beginning of October. The first concert open for the public is scheduled for the 13th of October (Monday).
The Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź is not the first cultural facility built by Mostostal Warszawa in Łódź. Between 2009 and 2011, the company also constructed the New Media Didactics Centre for the Leon Schiller Film School.
