Modernisation of the SPODEK hall in Katowice

Mostostal Warszawa has completed the modernisation of the SPODEK in Katowice. The work was completed over four months ahead of the schedule stipulated in the agreement.

27 April is the deadline for completion of work; however, the investment is ready ahead of schedule.

Mostostal Warszawa modernised SPODEK by replacing the façade, along with additional work; the work was started on 28 September 2012. The facility is a listed building; therefore , all the work was agreed and consulted with the Province and Municipal Heritage and Conservation Officer. An additional challenge was related to the façade: it was made of asbestos and cement panels with an asbestos and cement protection shell.

The new shell is in six sizes and it precisely matches the shape of the prior one. At the same time, it is lighter and more resistant. The aluminium cover offers a guarantee of even texture for approx. 20 years. In the course of the construction, unique scaffolding was applied due to the fact that on account of the safety of the facility, no element could be anchored to the facility’s bowl.

During all modernisation and construction work, as well as replacement of the façade, SPODEK continued to operate and full of cultural life
