Winners of the WOŚP auction visited the TBM Machine "Karpatka"

08 August 2024

On August 7, 2024, we welcomed the winners of this year's WOŚP (Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity) auction to Babica, where they had the opportunity to see the tunnel boring machine TBM "Karpatka", which is being used to excavate the tunnel along the S19 Rzeszów Południe-Babica section under the supervision of Mostostal Warszawa employees.

- For Mostostal Warszawa, it was a pleasure to share our knowledge and expertise in tunnel construction. We thank our guests for supporting the noble WOŚP auction and for their visit to the construction site, during which they showed great interest in the ongoing project - said Artur Salachna, Construction Manager for the S19 Tunnel at Mostostal Warszawa.

S19 Rzeszów Południe-Babica Section

The visit began with a 4x4 vehicle ride through the 10.3 km stretch of the S19 section under construction. In addition to the tunnel, this section will include six viaducts, two overpasses, and three animal crossings.

Additionally, the first Tunnel Management Center in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship will be built. The project also includes the construction of two rest areas (MOPs): MOP Lutoryż (towards Rzeszów and Barwinek) and two helicopter landing pads for the Air Ambulance Service (at MOP Lutoryż towards Rzeszów and at the Tunnel Management Center).

The highlight of the visit was a tour of the TBM machine, which began tunneling on July 11 of this year.

The TBM "Karpatka," which was the focus of the tour, is an impressive machine weighing 4,367 tons. The machine's cutting head alone weighs 400 tons, with a diameter of over 15 meters. The head is equipped with 471 tools for drilling, and "Karpatka" exerts a maximum pressure of 31,700 tons during excavation.
