We shared our experience with TBM transport
On January 31, 2023, a scientific and technical seminar "Logistics of intermodal transport of heavy equipment for the construction of a tunnel in Podkarpacie" was held at the Rzeszów University of Technology, co-organized by Mostostal Warszawa and Acciona Construcción.
The main topic discussed during the conference was the transport from Spain to Rzeszów of one of the largest TBM machines in Europe. The machine will drill a tunnel on the S19 Rzeszów Południe-Babica road section we are building.
Representatives of Mostostal Warszawa shared with the participants of the seminar their knowledge and experience both in the field of construction of the road section and the project of transporting TMB - Sławomir Barczak, Director of the Infrastructure Area and Director of the S19 Rzeszów-Południe-Babica Contract, talked about the T-1 technology used during the construction of the tunnel - Artur Salachna, Construction Manager of S19 Rzeszów Południe-Babica, presented the details of the choice of the TMB route.
Representatives of DB Schenker and MTD Skuratowicz, which carried out the transport of the boring machine, also spoke. Students of the Rzeszów University of Technology could ask the speakers questions and gain the necessary experience that they will be able to use in the future.
Mostostal Warszawa will build an underground tunnel over 2 km long
The tunnel built along the section of the S19 Rzeszów Południe-Babica road will be approximately 2100 meters long. It will consist of of two one-way aisles, which will be connected by 12 emergency passages. There will also be one emergency crossing. Each of the single naves will be 12.4 meters wide.
The maximum depth of the works carried out is over 70 meters. There will be 32 alarm points, 28 rescue niches and 28 hydrants along the entire length of the tunnel. The tunnel will be equipped with transverse ventilation. The supply of fresh air will take place from the bottom along the entire length of the tunnel, and the discharge of used air will take place through special portals.
The implementation of the investment is a serious engineering challenge. The hilly shape of the terrain forces the construction of high flyovers and a tunnel located up to 100 m below the surface. Complicated and complex ground and water conditions in the place of the planned investment are also significant.
The consortium of Mostostal Warszawa and Acciona Construccion is responsible for the execution of the contract, and the investor is the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.
The gross value of the contract amounts to PLN 2,230.17 million.
