TBM flows along the Odra River to Opole
The next stage of transporting the TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) has begun. Machine will bore a tunnel on the S19 Rzeszów Południe-Babica section. The largest parts of the machine are currently transported on the Odra River to Opole, from where they will continue their route to the construction site.
Three barges and two pontoons with the largest elements of the TBM machine, including the main drive and the cutting disc, have already left the port of Szczecin towards Opole. This is the beginning of a multi-stage road through successive voivodeships of our country.
At the same time, the remaining elements of the TBM are transported. 40 land transports have already left Szczecin, the next parts of the machine go straight from Spain.
Tunnel on the S19 route
The nearly 2.3 km long road tunnel will consist of two one-way aisles connected by 15 transverse passages and an additional emergency passage. Each of the single aisles will have an internal diameter of 12.4 m. There will be 30 alert points along the entire length of the tunnel. There are also 15 hydrants in each tunnel nave and two hydrants in the zone of the northern and southern portal. The tunnel will be equipped with semi-transverse ventilation. Two technical buildings and a Tunnel Management Center will be built to ensure the operation of the tunnel.It will meet the most stringent requirements for the safety of travelers and will have a class A (according to ADR).

About the project
The implementation of the investment is a real engineering challenge. Hilly terrain necessitates the construction of high heights and a tunnel located up to 100 m below the surface.The complicated and complex soil and water conditions occurring at the planned investment site are also important.
The consortium of Mostostal Warszawa and Acciona Construcción is responsible for the implementation of the contract, and the investor is the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.
The contract value is PLN 2,230.17 million gross.
