S19 Contract Director appointed to the Team for Best Practices in Tunnel Excavation

Artur Salachna, Contract Director for the S19 Rzeszów Południe–Babica project, has been appointed by the President of the Wyższy Urząd Górniczy (Higher Mining Office) to the Team for the Development of Best Practices in Tunnel Excavation. The Team’s task is to develop and define standards for the implementation of tunnel construction projects in Poland.

S19: The Most Advanced Engineering Project in Poland

The S19 Rzeszów Południe–Babica contract is one of the most demanding infrastructure projects in Poland. It includes the excavation of two single-bore tunnel tubes, each 2.2 km long, with a diameter exceeding 15 meters, under challenging geological conditions of the Carpathian flysch formation and in the presence of methane. The project requires the use of state-of-the-art TBM technology as well as an innovative approach to safety, logistics, and geotechnical risk management.

The investment is being carried out by a consortium of Mostostal Warszawa S.A. and ACCIONA. The contract value exceeds PLN 2 billion.
