PKP Gdańsk Główny Railway Station Modernization Awarded in the "Station of the Year 2023" Competition
The modernization of the PKP Gdańsk Główny Railway Station has been honored in the "Station of the Year 2023" competition. The renovated building, reconstructed by Mostostal Warszawa, received the audience award in the competition that selects the most beautiful and functional railway stations in Poland.
- The modernization work at PKP Gdańsk Główny Station posed a significant engineering challenge, which we successfully met. The entire team involved in the realization of this investment put a lot of heart and effort into the reconstruction of the historic station, so we feel proud to see that our work has been appreciated - says Robert Kiezik, Contract Manager.
The modernization of PKP Gdańsk Główny Station included:
- restoration of the original architectural form of the building's facade and roof,
- recreation of the historical layout of some rooms and the color scheme of the passenger hall,
- reconstruction of the transportation section connecting the station to existing city tunnels and platforms.
The PKP Gdańsk Główny Station building was opened to passengers on July 31, 2023.
The contract value amounted to nearly PLN 133 million gross.
The exclusive investor is Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A. The reconstruction of Gdańsk Główny Station was co-financed by the European Union under the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment.
