Mostostal Warszawa has commissioned a new four-chamber 60 000 t grain warehouse at the Silesian Quay of the Gdynia Harbor. The project is valued at PLN 26 million and is aimed to improve competitiveness level of the Gdynia bulk goods terminal.

The newly erected storage facility, which comprises the general section of the feed and grain base of the Maritime Bulk Terminal Gdynia, is designed for storing soybean pellets – the basic feed production component. Under the project, the current grain storage facility has been rebuilt so as to ensure continuous operation of both facilities.

"In reality, the new warehouse is four 60 m x 154 m reinforced concrete chambers with annexes: a social room, a compressor room, power distribution and transformer stations, sanitary installations, maneuvering areas, and underground infrastructure. The approx. 35-meter tall warehouse is fitted with technical devices designed to accept pellets directly from ships and to dispatch vehicles through four loading stations," says Marek Jabłoński, Contract Manager at Mostostal Warszawa.

A set of devices designed to carry the pallets, i.e. belt, bucket and chain conveyors, including a technological tower and two flow scales, allow efficiency equal to two processing lines to be obtained while unloading ships at a rate of 1200 tons per hour. Each unloading station, fitted with hopper scales, loading sleeves, and dust absorption filters, operate at the 300 tons per hour efficiency rate. Created in the vicinity of the new building, the new processing line designed for loading and emptying the warehouse is environment friendly as each conveyor located at pellet drop points is fitted with dust reduction filters. In addition, a full monitoring system is provided over the processing line – the devices are activated and their operation controlled from the dispatch center via a computer.

On the Mostostal Warszawa's side, the works involved a team led by Maciej Sasak and made up of the following persons: Marek Jabłoński (Contract Manager), Jarosław Stobba (Site Manager), Maciej Nowaczyk, Marta Odjas, Jędrzej Faściszewski, and Adrian Choromański. It is estimated that the newly erected facility will improve grain and feed rotation at the Maritime Bulk Terminal Gdynia.
