On July 25, Mostostal Warszawa signed a contract with the John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice for the project titled: “Redevelopment of the Existing Old Cargo Terminal Building for Temporary Pre-Boarding Zone Non-Schengen Departure Lounges". The investment is valued at PLN 28,619,566.46 gross.

- This is another project implemented by Mostostal Warszawa for the dynamically growing Kraków Airport, reaffirming the Investor’s trust in us and our strong position in the infrastructure construction sector - said Maciej Sasak, Director of the Eastern Division at Mostostal Warszawa. The work will be carried out under demanding conditions at an operational airport, where ensuring continuous operation and passenger safety is paramount. This task calls for excellent organization, precise coordination, and often nighttime work. However, we have the necessary experience, a proven team, and we know how to operate effectively in such a challenging environment.

- The development of Kraków Airport is a precisely planned process - emphasized Łukasz Strutyński, CEO of Kraków Airport. We are about to begin a crucial first step in a broader modernization strategy – the adaptation of the former cargo terminal building, which in the near future will serve passengers as a Pre-Boarding Zone (PBZ) with six additional gates. In the coming years, we plan to expand the passenger terminal both to the west and east. Our goal is to complete the works by 2031 and reach a capacity of 19 million passengers annually.

A new chapter for the Terminal

The scope of the contract involves a comprehensive redevelopment of the old cargo terminal building at Kraków-Balice Airport. The work will start with the partial demolition of the existing structure, followed by a full reorganization and redesign of the interiors to accommodate temporary Non-Schengen departure lounges.

A key element of the project will be the creation of a functional connection between the redeveloped building and the main passenger terminal, achieved through the construction of a connector at the first-floor level. The plan also includes the construction of two new staircases to link upper levels with ground level.

Additionally, internal installations will be rebuilt and adapted to meet the new functional needs of the facility.

The redevelopment will also cover the immediate surroundings of the building – the so-called forecourt – which will be arranged to ensure safe and convenient service for future passengers. All works will be carried out in line with the highest safety standards and with respect to the airport's operational continuity.

The revamped Cargo Terminal is expected to be completed within nine months from the date of contract signing.

Continued cooperation and regional development

This new investment marks yet another chapter in the successful cooperation with Kraków Airport. Earlier this year, in May, Mostostal Warszawa successfully completed the construction of a new Cargo Terminal, and in June, signed a contract for the construction of a Central Waste Collection Facility within the airport grounds.

At the same time, Mostostal Warszawa continues to support regional development in Małopolska. The company is currently modernizing the historic Światowid cinema building in Kraków, which will house the Museum of Nowa Huta – an important cultural institution in the city.
