Mostostal Warszawa to construct nearly zero-energy building for the Poznan University of Technology

09 August 2017

Western Division, Industry, Environmental Protection Mostostal Warszawa (leader) and Acciona Construcción S.A. (partner) won the tender for the construction of the nearly zero-energy building of the Faculty of Architecture and Faculty of the Engineering Management of the Poznan University of Technology. The gross contract value amounts to PLN 71 875.22. The project is scheduled to begin in August 2017.

On behalf of the consortium, on August 9, 2017, the agreement was signed by Jorge Calabuig Ferre, Member of the Management Board for Business Development (Mostostal Warszawa), Dariusz Jarek, Director of General Construction, Industry and Environmental Protection and Yves Marchand (Acciona Construcción). On the part of investor were present: rector of the Poznan University of Technology, Tomasz Łodygowski and Barbara Dopierała (university’s bursar).

The agreement signed in the formula design[&]build encompasses obtaining legally binding permit and, among others, combine collector DN100, construction and finishing of the building with architectural concrete, electrical and low-current installations, heating sanitary installations (COP, COG, COT, CCW, PC3), refrigeration, heat generation and discharge, combined heat/cooling distribution system, mechanical ventilation and fire alarm system and photovoltaic installation.

The nearly zero-energy building of the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Management Engineering was also designed with high-efficiency and energy-saving technical equipment where the demand for non-renewable primary energy will not exceed 50kWh/ m² per year. All installations will be linked to a single Building Management System allowing control of the system and review of individual parameters.

The new building for the Poznan University of Technology which is to be built by Mostostal Warszawa will stand out for its appearance. The simple shape of the building is one of its distinguishing features. There have been projected three aboveground storeys of twelve meters high. According to the architectural design of Sławomir Rosolski, the project refers to the proportions of Parthenon temple in the Acropolis. What is more, the main characteristic of the building will be the glass atrium serving as an internal courtyard. On the same level will be situated the dean’s offices and other administrative facilities of the faculty. The underground storey is destined for laboratories and car park.

‘Construction of the building for the Poznan University of Technology is another project executed by Mostostal Warszawa for the same investor. In June, we’ve signed the contract for the extension of the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications and reconstruction of the stairwell smoke ventilation system. We’re very happy that our cooperation with the investor is fruitful, especially due to the fact that the building of Faculty of Architecture and Faculty of Engineering Management will be nearly zero-energy and that sets out strict requirements upon us’ – says Dariusz Jarek, Director of General Construction, Industry and Environmental Protection.

Faculty of Architecture and Faculty of Engineering Management of the Poznan University of Technology will be nearly zero-energy building. The energy will be drawn from the ground with heat pumps and from the sun through photovoltaic cells. This will satisfy 80% of the energy demand required to heat the building in winter and cool it down in the summer. Further, this results also in the better performance of the building than the European Union requires. Starting from 2021 under the EU Directive only buildings with very low energy and power demand are to be erected in the European Union.

Construction of the Faculty of Architecture and Engineering Management constitutes next stage, after sports hall, Faculty of Chemical Technology, Lecture and Conference Centre, Centre of Mechatronics, Biomechanics and Nanoengineering, of extension of the university in Poznan. Till 2020, there will be created a university campus gathering all faculties of the Poznan University of Technology.

On behalf of Mostostal Warszawa, the project will be executing Western Division, Industry and Environmental Protection headed by Marzena Witkowska. Łukasz Czapla was appointed Contract Manager.
