Mostostal Warszawa (leader) and Radscan Intervex Polska (partner) consortium builds first polish environment friendly humid-exhaust heat recovery system

24 February 2015

The Consortium of Mostostal Warszawa (Leader) and Radscan Intervex Polska Sp. z o.o. (Partner) has built a turnkey system designed to recover heat from humid exhaust generated by a K6 biomass boiler at the Białystok Heat [&] Power Plant – a member of ENEA Wytwarzanie.

The Consortium of Mostostal Warszawa (Leader) and Radscan Intervex Polska Sp. z o.o. (Partner) has built a turn-key system designed to recover heat from humid exhaust generated by biomass K6 boiler at the Białystok Heat [&] Power Plant belonging to ENEA Wytwarzanie.

On February 23, with greatly appreciated attendance of Mr Jan Olsson, Ambassador for Ecology of the Swedish government, representatives of the Swedish Embassy, the Investor, the Executive Consortium, authorities, and media, a K6 Biomass Boiler Humid-Exhaust Heat Recovery System was commissioned at the Białystok Heat [&] Power Plant. During the ceremony, Mostostal was represented by Jose Angel Andres Lopez, Vice-Chairman of the Production Board, Jacek Szymanek, Member of the Management [&] Administration Board, Paweł Żbikowski, Director of the Conventional Energy Department and Maciej Kowalski, Contract Manager.

The heat recovery system installed at the Białystok Heat [&] Power Plant is the first Polish system of this type that relies on humid exhaust. The system allows for recovery of the energy evacuated into the air through a smokestack in the form of exhaust gases, thus improving the heat output by decreasing the so-called "outlet loss". The energy recovery process consists in collecting the heat from condensed exhaust moisture and transferring it over to the heating network. The system's nominal power is 18.4 MW. The forecasted annual production of heat is 385.697 GJ. This innovative Polish technology is successfully applied across waste combustion plants and biomass-fired boilers in Scandinavia.

"For Białystok Heat [&] Power Plant, the K6 Biomass Boiler Exhaust-Based Heat Recovery System is an environment friendly installation designed in accordance with an innovative technology of our Swedish partner and the first system of this type in Poland. Taking into account the appreciation expressed by the Ordering Party regarding the completed project and positive parameter measurement results – the 18,69 MW heat recovery rate estimated in the Agreement was exceeded only by approximately 10% - there is a chance that similar pro-ecology systems will also emerge in other locations across Poland," said

Jose Angel Andres Lopez, Vice-Chairman of the Production Board, Mostostal Warszawa SA.

Depending on working conditions, the heat recovery system operates at heat efficiency levels of 10-18 MW. Taking into account the system's annual operation time, it allows for production of 175 000 -385000 GJ of heat without additional fuel supply. During winter season, the UOC heat will allow the use of coal to be reduced in the existing boilers, thus reducing CO2 emissions into the air. The estimated reduction of carbon dioxide emission is approx. 20 000 tons/year. The value of the completed contract is PLN 27,7 million. The construction works lasted from August 26, 2013 to February 23, 2015, including 1 year of on-site operations. Being the Consortium leader, Mostostal Warszawa was in charge of the construction works, delivery of steel structures and pipelines, and of mechanical assembly works. The Partner's scope of works included: technology, delivery of main devices, electrical power and automation (AKPiA systems), and system start-up.
