Mostostal Warszawa has completed the construction of the supporting terminal for Kraków Airport – the facility is ready for testing and launch
Mostostal Warszawa has finished building the supporting terminal for Kraków Airport. The new facility, with an area of over 4,500 m², is prepared for operational testing and to welcome its first passengers, supporting the airport’s operations during its upcoming expansion.
- I would like to thank Kraków Airport for the partnership-based cooperation. For Mostostal Warszawa, this was another important investment strengthening the airport’s infrastructure. From the very beginning, we were aware of the significance of this project, as the facility will support passenger handling during the planned expansion of the main terminal. I would like to congratulate the entire construction team for their professionalism and efficient, timely delivery - said Jorge Calabuig Ferre, President of the Management Board of Mostostal Warszawa S.A.

- The opening of the supporting terminal is an important event for our airport - emphasized Łukasz Strutyński, President of Kraków Airport. We are providing our passengers with a new, comfortable space equipped with 632 new seats, while also ensuring the possibility of passenger traffic growth in the coming years, during the expansion of the current terminal. The last time we increased passenger space at our airport was in 2016, when traffic was three times lower than it is today.

The investment represents another stage in the airport’s infrastructure development and was completed within nine months. Its value exceeded PLN 25 million net. The project included adapting the existing infrastructure of the former cargo terminal, constructing a connector to the main terminal, and building two staircases. The surrounding area was also modernized, improving logistics and passenger service safety.
Functionality and passenger amenities
The supporting terminal significantly enhances the airport’s functionality, creating space dedicated to passengers traveling outside the Schengen area. The facility offers six gates, an expanded retail and dining zone, and numerous amenities such as spaces adapted for people with disabilities, a medical room, and areas for families with children.
Additional features include foot-washing stations, particularly important for religious reasons for passengers from the Middle East, as well as two ecumenical prayer rooms – separate for women and men. The airport has also prepared a special guide for neurodivergent individuals, including those on the autism spectrum.
The facility is equipped with modern technical installations, including over 30 km of electrical systems, advanced security systems, and efficient ventilation and cooling systems, ensuring smooth and safe operations.
Operational tests and launch
Following the completion of construction works, the terminal is entering the testing and preparation phase for launch. The first operational tests are scheduled for the night of 28–29 April, involving around 300 participants acting as passengers. Interest in participation was very high – all spots were filled within a few hours of the recruitment announcement.
The first real passengers traveling outside the Schengen area are expected to be served on 30 April.
Next stage of airport expansion
The commissioning of the supporting terminal marks the first stage of a broader airport expansion program. The airport authorities have already concluded the tender for the target expansion of the passenger terminal, with the most advantageous bid, amounting to PLN 537.7 million net, submitted by Mostostal Warszawa. The contract is expected to be signed soon, with design work and initial earthworks planned to begin later this year.
According to the current schedule, the airport will be able to handle around 16 million passengers annually by 2029, and approximately 20 million after the expansion is completed in 2032.
