Works related to concreting a boiler building no. 5 foundation slab have come to an end at Power Units 5 and 6 construction site in Opole. These were preceded by preparatory works related to organizing and preparing the technology and curing methods in terms of thermal and water absorption properties.

Mostostal Warszawa has completed the general foundation slab concreting works for boiler building no. 5 at the Opole Power Plant. Production and delivery of the concrete mix was provided simultaneously by 6 concrete manufacturing plants. The mix was supplied on a 24-hour basis and 54 concrete mixers were used for concreting purposes with each tested for temperature and consistency of the concrete mix.

During the 110-hour long works, 18 442 m3 of concrete were used to fill the 78 m x 83 m- foundation slab. Over 200 persons were involved in the process.

"Currently, works are under way to smooth the concrete with the help of trowels, damp and cover the concrete with foil and canvas. 200 persons were involved in concreting works on a 24-hour basis. A system that has never been applied in Poland before was used to displace the formwork. This was the second time that the system had been used worldwide. Formwork deviations are within the limits and in line with the calculations. The concreting works were performed on time and the works carried out by Mostostal Warszawa are ahead of the schedule signed with the Ordering Party," said Julian Kiełbasa, Site Manager for Power Units 5 and 6 construction in Opole.

For now, temperature distribution within the concrete structure is being monitored on a constant basis. The obtained measurement results will be used to make decisions regarding concrete curing method selection. Temperature will be measured with the help of depth probes.

On the Mostostal Warszawa's side, a two-member team (Dariusz Bomba and Andrzej Pietrzak)led by Julian Kiełbasa – Site Manager was in charge of the concreting process.
