Association for Safety in the Construction Industry – new members

09 January 2015

The Association for Safety in the Construction Industry" is an informal group of leading general contractors founded in 2010. Its aim is to eliminate fatal accidents at Polish construction sites. Mostostal Warszawa S.A. is one of the signatories and founders of the association. Last week, the group was joined by two new members, Unibep S.A. and Erbud S.A., companies that are socially engaged in improving working conditions.

To date, the association has included eight companies: Bilfinger Berger, Budimex, Hochtief Polska, Mostostal Warszawa, Mota-Engil Central Europe, Polimex Mostostal, Skanska, and Warbud.
As of February 5, 2015, the signatories were joined by two construction companies - Erbud S.A. and Unibep S.A., which will support the association in terms of safety improvement activities across the construction industry.

The reasons behind joining the association are reflected in a statement by the board of Erbud:
"Erbud S.A. is one of the largest construction companies in Poland. Achieving this position was possible due to stable growth, project quality and timeliness as well as the implementation and maintenance of the highest work safety standards. By becoming an Association for Safety in the Construction Industry signatory, we look forward to sharing experience between the partners and developing common and optimum safety standards for the entire construction industry."

A similar motivation of the Unibep board:
“For many years, we have strived to make work safety at our construction sites the flagship of the entire Unibep S.A. Group. We realise that this is not only our priority, but the priority of the entire sector. By joining the Association for Safety in the Construction Industry, we want to develop good practices in a cooperative effort. Our job is of the upmost value to us. People are behind any company's success. And, regardless of which company they work for, they need to be safe. Each life potentially saved at a construction site is a success for all of us. Let's work out the highest safety standards at construction sites. Together we can do more!"

"We're glad to see Erbud and Unibep join the association. We are open to other companies wishing to implement high safety standards in the construction industry, communicated by the association,” says Dariusz Blocher, Budimeks S.A. CEO and chairman of the Association for Safety in the Construction Industry. Each new member expands the range of the changes introduced in the construction market," he adds.

The association's activities focus not only on the group of signatories employing over 20,000 employees and completing thousands of contracts nationwide, but they also concentrate on a vast group of subcontractors comprising 70% of the staff hired to complete a given project.

Support provided for organisations associated with the construction industry, such as the Chief Labour Inspector, National Labour Inspectorate, Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians, the Budowlani Trade Union, Polish Association of Construction Industry Employers, Solidarity Secretariat for the Construction and Wood Industry and Polish the Chamber of Construction Engineers is also of great importance. In October 2014, the association’s group of supporters was joined by the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) and by the Polish Association of Employees of OHS Services.
