AGH Sports Hall in Kraków Awarded for Accessibility for People with Disabilities
The AGH Sports Hall in Kraków has been recognized for its accessibility for individuals with disabilities. The facility, constructed in 2023 by Mostostal Warszawa, received an award in the "accessible construction – public buildings" category during the 17th edition of the "Kraków Without Barriers" competition.
- Mostostal Warszawa is committed to building infrastructure that is accessible for people with disabilities. We promote and continue the path of responsible construction that counteracts exclusion - said Jorge Calabuig Ferre, President of Mostostal Warszawa.
A Model Facility for All
The AGH Sports Hall serves as an exemplary model of a facility designed with accessibility in mind, offering numerous amenities that eliminate architectural barriers and facilitate the use of the building.
Inside the hall, a range of solutions have been implemented:
Barrier-Free Entrances: The entrance area is color-coded and textured to aid orientation, with glass elements secured to prevent accidental impact. The doors are wide and equipped with self-closing mechanisms for easier opening, as well as automatic sliding doors.
Adaptations for the Visually Impaired: The facility includes tactile maps and Braille signage throughout to aid navigation. There are contrasting raised information and directional signs on the floor, along with clear semaphore and directional markings.
Information Systems: The building features an information desk with a lowered counter designed for wheelchair users. Communication can also occur via an induction loop, facilitating use by those with hearing aids.
No Vertical and Horizontal Barriers: There are no obstacles that hinder movement across different levels in the building. Three spacious elevators are equipped with voice information, Braille markings, and handrails. Stairs are appropriately color-coded to enhance safety, especially for individuals with limited mobility.
Accessible Locker Rooms and Toilets: The hall includes locker rooms with specially adapted toilets and showers. These are equipped with grab bars, folding chairs, and hooks at various heights, ensuring comfort for seniors, individuals with mobility impairments, or those recovering from injuries.
Emergency Evacuation for People with Disabilities: The building is equipped with an advanced evacuation support system that considers the needs of wheelchair users. It features designated safe waiting areas and emergency communication systems with an induction loop and Braille signage.
Amenities for Individuals with Limited Mobility: All doors, including fire doors, are equipped with electro-holders for easy opening. The furniture, including seating and lockers, is designed for the comfort of individuals with limited mobility.
Thanks to these comprehensive solutions, the AGH Sports Hall is fully accessible and comfortable for individuals with various disabilities, including visual, mobility, and hearing impairments.
