Mostostal Warszawa and Acciona Construcción with a historical infrastructure contract

10 july 2020 a consortium of Mostostal Warszawa and Acciona Construcción signed a contract with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways for the designing and construction of an over 10-kilometer section of the S19 express road from Rzeszów Południe junction to the Babica junction. The contract value is PLN 2.230 billion.

The Consortium of Mostostal Warszawa and Acciona Construcción was represented by Jorge Calabuig Ferre - Vice President of the Board, Alvaro Javier de Rojas Rodríguez - Member of the Board, Sławomir Barczak - Director of Infrastructure Area in Mostostal Warszawa.

The section, which will be built by Mostostal Warszawa and Acciona Construcción, will be one of the most interesting and technologically most difficult infrastructure constructions in Poland. The task involves the construction of a tunnel over two kilometers long. Six flyovers, two viaducts, a collision-free passage along national road No. 19 and a passage under route S19 will also be built on the section.

- The scale of this task is difficult to compare to other implemented projects. However, apart from the scale, the technological advancement of this project is an evidence of its historical significance. Our assumptions provide for the use of tunnel boring machine - TBM technology - says Jorge Calabuig Ferre. This means that we are planning to use to build the tunnel a special boring machine whose diameter exceeds 15 meters. The complexity and scale of the project is unique in the Polish road investment plan with the largest diameter road tunnel in Poland.

Mostostal Warszawa and Acciona Construcción will build an underground tunnel over 2 km long

The tunnel will be around 2,100 meters long. It will consist of, among others, from two one-way naves, which will be connected by 12 emergency passages. There will also be one emergency crossing. Each of the individual naves will be 12.4 meters wide.

The maximum depth of work is over 70 meters. On the whole length of the tunnel there will be 32 alarm points, 28 rescue niches, 28 hydrants. The tunnel will be equipped with transverse ventilation. The supply of fresh air will take place from below along the entire length of the tunnel, and the exhaust air will be removed using special portals.

The TBM technology, know-how and equipment to be used in this project will be provided by Acciona. The unique experience gained at construction sites around the world will allow the S19 section to be built efficiently and, considering the scale of the investment, extremely quickly.

Contract value: PLN 2,230.17 million gross.
Completion date: 2026 – 54 months; winter periods (i.e. from 1 December to 31 March) are included during the design phase; winter periods (i.e. from 1 December to 31 March) counted as four months are not included in the construction duration.
Payment deadline: 30 days from the date of receipt of the invoice.
The maximum warranty period is 10 years.
Performance bond: 10% of the gross contract value in the form of a bank guarantee.
